Shri. P. Jayachandran began his career as a playback film singer in 1965. A few years later, he won his first State Award for the song “Suprabhatham” from the film Panitheeratha Veedu. In the 1980s and ’90s, he continued to win many awards, and in 2000 he had a major hit with the song “Prayam Nammil” from the film Niram, which won both the Asianet Award and the Kerala State Award. In 2001, he won the Mathrubhoomi Award for the song “Ponnushassennum” from the film Meghamalar.
